Terms and Condition of the British School of Driving

We kindly ask that you carefully review and understand the following terms and conditions before making a booking with us. These terms and conditions outline our policies and procedures to ensure your satisfaction with our services.
Understanding of Services Agreement
By agreeing to these terms and conditions, you acknowledge that you have read and fully comprehend them. As our valued customer, please note that failure to comply with any of these terms and conditions may result in charges for affected courses/lessons/tutorials by British School of Driving and your instructor. Furthermore, by enrolling in a course with British School of Driving, you agree to adhere to all these terms and conditions in their entirety. For ease of navigation, the terms and conditions have been divided into multiple sections, and compliance with all parts is mandatory for all customers. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to providing you with a positive learning experience.

If you do not agree with any of these terms, please refrain from using the website. All bookings are subject to the condition that the pupil has thoroughly read, understood, and accepted these terms and conditions. “Working days” refer to weekdays excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays as defined in these terms and conditions.
We value your feedback and take any complaints about our service seriously. Our goal is to consistently provide exceptional service.
Driving Licences and Fitness to Drive
Part A – Prior to your first driving lesson (or beforehand), you must present a current, provisional, full, or international valid driving licence. You must be fit to drive according to legal and medical requirements.
Part B – We recommend undergoing an eyesight test before commencing any courses with British School of Driving to ensure you meet the driving eligibility criteria. Your eyesight must comply with medical requirements, including the ability to read a number plate from the required distance. If you cannot read a number plate from the required distance, the instructor may refuse to allow you to drive.
Privacy & Security of Customer Information
Part A – The personal data or information collected by British School of Driving for processing your booking will be securely held and will not be sold or shared with third parties, in accordance with the law.
Part B – British School of Driving will only use the data collected about you lawfully, and all information will be handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
Instructor Responsibilities
Part A – Your instructor agrees to maintain professional conduct towards you as stipulated by the Professional Code of Conduct and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s (DVSA) Code of Practice for Approved Driving Instructors.
Part B – Your instructor is responsible for keeping their vehicle clean and roadworthy, as required by law.
Part C – Your instructor will provide a vehicle equipped with dual controls and learner driver signage for your safety.
Part D – Your instructor will maintain appropriate motor insurance as mandated by law.
Part E – Your instructor will provide a fully taxed and insured vehicle for driving tuition and practical driving test purposes.
Part F – All instructors are self-employed. Please check if they have specific cancellation or rescheduling terms for lessons.
Customer Responsibilities
Part A – Hostile or violent behavior is unacceptable in the vehicle at any time and will result in the immediate termination of the lesson, with charges for the full lesson applying.
Part B – If the instructor suspects you are under the influence of alcohol, illegal substances, or drugs (prescribed or otherwise), impairing your judgment and responses, the lesson will be terminated immediately, with charges for the full lesson applying. Prepaid lessons will not be refunded in such cases.
Part C – Save the instructor’s phone number under ‘Driving Instructor/Tutor’ to avoid unintentional calls or texts.
Part D – If you need to text your instructor for any reason, all communications should be clear, avoiding common text abbreviations or slang, and maintaining a polite and formal tone suitable for the professional relationship.
Part E – Changes to pick-up or drop-off locations must be arranged at least 24 hours before the lesson. Additional travel time resulting from these changes will be considered part of the lesson time.
Part F – If using your own vehicle for driving lessons (e.g., during a Pass Plus or refresher course), you must provide evidence of valid tax, MOT compliance, and full insurance coverage. It is recommended to initially take lessons in the instructor’s car if you are not an official client of ours. The lesson price remains the same.
Part G – Smoking is prohibited in the tuition vehicle, and consumption of food or drink is only permitted with the instructor’s consent.
Part H – For theory and practical driving tests, you must provide all necessary documentation. Neither British School of Driving nor your instructor accepts responsibility for any losses due to failure to provide required documentation.
Location of Driving Courses
We offer driving lessons in several areas London.
Part A – Instructors can pick you up and drop you off at home, work, or university within the local area with prior notice.
Part B – All lessons will start and end at the same locations unless alternative arrangements are agreed upon between you and your instructor in advance. The instructor will determine a safe location for the lesson to ensure public safety.
Part C – The instructor will drive you to a safe location until they deem you capable of driving safely from the starting location. This time is considered part of the lesson duration.
Instructor and British School of Driving Relationship
Part A – Your instructor operates as a freelance franchisee or self-employed contractor of British School of Driving. 
Part B – There is no contractual liability between British School of Driving and the customer or between the instructor and the customer.
Part C – British School of Driving cannot be held liable if you or your instructor fail to adhere to DVSA terms and conditions.
Part D – Payments directly to your instructor do not count towards your booking balance.
Part E – If you pay your instructor directly for tuition, this does not extend our services to you. British School of Driving assumes no responsibility for these payments.
Part F – British School of Driving does not guarantee specific preferences regarding your driving instructor’s gender, car model, or fuel type.
Part G – All lesson scheduling, including time and location, must be arranged directly between you and the instructor, not through British School of Driving.
Part H – Any breaks deemed necessary by the instructor for safety reasons are included in the total lesson/course time.
Part I – Punctuality is your responsibility. If you are late for a lesson, it will not be extended due to the instructor’s subsequent commitments. If you miss a lesson, the instructor may deduct the lesson time from your course hours, and the full tuition fee will be retained.
Part J – Lessons are conducted on an individual basis between the instructor and pupil, unless agreed otherwise by all parties involved.
Lesson Pricing
Part A – Each lesson has a minimum duration of 2 hours. ” We also offer 1, 1½-hour sessions, which are higher prices than block booking.
Part B – While we strive to maintain competitive pricing, British School of Driving reserves the right to modify pricing structures without prior notice. Future lesson prices will reflect the updated structure, while any prepaid lessons will be honored at the original price.
Part C – All prices are inclusive, covering weekends, bank holidays, weekdays, and evenings. There are no additional charges for evening or weekend lessons.
Block Bookings
Part A – Block booking lessons must be taken within 6 months from the purchase date. After this period, unused lessons will expire.
Part B – Block booking discounts apply only when paid in advance.
Part C – Block booking does not include charges for driving test fees or vehicle hire on test days.
Part D – Cancellations or rescheduling of block booking lessons require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice to avoid full fee charges. All cancellations must be communicated directly between you and your instructor. British School of Driving cannot facilitate cancellation requests.
Intensive Courses/ Crash Courses/Semi Intensive Courses
Part A – Our intensive courses are flexible, allowing you and your instructor to determine the appropriate pace. You have the flexibility to schedule your course accordingly.
Part B – The fee for intensive courses covers British School of Driving’s administrative costs, test bookings, instructor connections, and scheduling of theory or practical tests.
Part C – Course durations are based on average learning capabilities derived from previous client experiences and serve as rough guidelines. No guarantees can be made, and additional lessons may be necessary before taking tests safely.
Part D – Notice of at least 10 working days is required for cancellations, changes, or reductions in booked hours for intensive courses/crash courses/semi-intensive courses, as well as changes or cancellations of theory or practical tests.
Part E – Adjustments to course fees may be necessary if more than six months elapse before passing your theory test. Course bookings may be suspended until these fees are settled.
Part F – British School of Driving does not guarantee your success in practical driving and theory tests, as these depend on your own skills and knowledge.
Part G – The contract for an intensive driving course is between you and the driving instructor (ADI/PDI). Therefore, any disputes or claims must be addressed with the instructor, as British School of Driving cannot be held responsible. British School of Driving cannot be held liable for traffic violations or unsafe driving by either the pupil or instructor.
Part H – British School of Driving and your driving instructor bear no responsibility for losses resulting from course or test cancellations due to reasons such as inclement weather, examiner illness, strikes, instructor illness, vehicle breakdowns, or sudden vehicle recalls. Alternative arrangements will be made by your instructor for completion of the course, with additional fees applicable if agreed to schedule a theory test/driving test/course.
Pass Plus Course
Part A – The Pass Plus course includes a minimum of 6 hours of driving tuition. The Pass Plus certificate will be issued upon completion of the minimum 6 hours of driving tuition
Part B – We recommend 3 hours of lessons per session for Pass Plus. Please check with your instructor before you start the course.
Early Test Booking
Part A – To avoid losing your fee, you must inform us at least 10 working days before your test date if you need to reschedule or cancel your theory test/driving test. The admin fee is non-refundable.
Part B – By registering for the British School of Driving service, you agree to us changing or cancelling your driving test date and time on your behalf. By providing your driving license number and test reference details, you permit us to log in to the Driver and Vehicles Standards Agency (DVSA) website using these details.
Part C – British School of Driving cannot guarantee that we will find an earlier test date. We will not be liable for failure or inability to provide alternative test dates. Our maximum liability will not exceed the amount you paid us.
Part D – You agree to us:
  • Passing your information to the DVSA
  • Sending you emails to the registered email address
  • Sending SMS messages to the registered mobile phone number
  • Sharing your information with your instructor
  • Sharing your information with a parent, guardian, spouse, or partner
  • Sharing your information with the person who paid British School of Driving for your account.
  • Other than the above, we will not share your details with any third parties.
Part E – We are not liable for any expenses or compensation caused by your assumption that your test has or has not been changed. It is your responsibility to check with the DVSA that any changes made or attempted to be made by us were successful. You should expect to receive an email confirmation from them and check all the details carefully.
Part F – There is no guarantee of test availability, especially if your theory certificate is about to expire (valid for two years). If a test cannot be scheduled for the end of the course, a test will be offered for a date and time that suit the pupil and instructor. There will be no refunds in this case. If the DVSA cancels a test for any reason, we cannot be held liable for the test fee and any lessons lost. You may need to purchase additional lessons to retake the test.
Part G – Assuming that your test has or has not been changed may cause you expenses or compensation. It is your responsibility to check with the DVSA that any changes made or attempted to be made by us were successful. You will need to receive an email confirmation from them and double-check all the details.

Part H – The British School of Driving cannot guarantee a weekday or weekend test date. You must be available 7 days a week between 7:00 and 15:30 to take a practical driving test.
Criteria for Payment
  • We book and arrange the tests required for your course, which are included in the course’s guide prices.
  • Your course will be secured once you make your initial payment. British School of Driving will contact you if you do not fully pay when booking your course.
  • The full payment of the fees becomes due:
    • Within 7 days of your driving instructor being assigned or before your first lesson.
    • The course will be placed on hold if payment remains due and reminders are ignored. Your theory test/practical driving test and lessons will be cancelled or postponed.
  • You will pay British School of Driving on behalf of your driving instructor. British School of Driving may claim fees from you upon non-payment, withdrawal, or incorrect cancellation.
  • All major debit and credit cards can be used to make payments online or over the phone.
  • In addition to connecting you with a driving instructor, British School of Driving acts as your agent. Payment for the course is to be made to British School of Driving, which accepts the payment on your behalf and arranges payment of the tuition fee to the instructor after deducting the administration fee. You don’t need to pay your instructor directly.
  • The payment you make to your instructor will not be applied to the balance of your booking. British School of Driving will not be responsible for any issues that may occur.
  • We may run promotional/discount/coupon campaigns from time to time. We will refund the transaction if we determine that the associated discount has been applied to a transaction that is outside the intended scope.
Practical Driving Tests
Part A – When attending a driving test, a minimum of three hours will be required, including one hour of driving prior to the test, one hour for the test, and one hour to get the candidate home. Therefore, a fixed fee will be applied to accommodate the learner’s vehicle for the test.
Part B – Your instructor is not accountable for tests cancelled by the DVSA due to strike action, road conditions in bad weather, or staff sickness. Hire a car for the practical driving test fee will still be chargeable. Your instructor will advise you on whether and how to claim compensation from the DVSA.
Part C – The car hire for an extended driving test/ADI/PDI test will be charged for more than 3 hours.
Part D – To reschedule or cancel a driving test, we need 10 working days’ notice.
Your Photograph / Video
Part A – After you have passed your driving test, your instructor will ask you for a photograph or video. By agreeing, you allow us to use the photograph in our testimonials section and possibly elsewhere as promotional material.
Rights of the Customer
Part A – These terms do not affect your consumer legislation protection.
Part B – British School of Driving retains and reserves the right to make amendments and alterations to these terms and conditions without prior notice. However, we will attempt to inform pupils of any modifications to the terms and conditions as soon as possible.
Lateness to the Driving Lessons/Courses
Part A – Your instructor will attempt to be on time always. In the event of lateness, your instructor will contact you to confirm a new starting time.
Part B – You can reschedule your lesson if the instructor is going to be more than 30 minutes late.
On Hold & Expired Bookings
British School of Driving will cease all work of your course if it is on hold for any reason until you instruct it to resume. While a course is on hold, the 50-day period does not apply. We will begin the 50 days after you’ve notified us that you have passed the theory test if you have not yet taken it.
– We will consider your course to be on hold if:
  • British School of Driving places your course on hold upon your instruction.
  • In the last 14 days, we have attempted to contact you without success.
  • You have not responded to our notice of the suitable Test appointment after 7 days. The remaining balance has not been paid within the required timeframe and when requested.
– Your booking will expire after 90 days, all fees will be non-refundable, and you won’t be able to reopen it.
